Crocodile clips are used to make a temporary connection in an electrical circuit, their tips are made up of serrated jaws resembling the jaws of a crocodile, hence their name.
The main application of the clips is to connect temporary quick electrical connections, from a housing, battery, accumulator or other electrical component to a charger, multimeter or other measuring equipment. Their firm grip to which is thanks to the built-in spring clamp provides security and reliability of the connection even with momentary high amperage, for example when supplying current to a car.
The small versions are used for connecting laboratory and measuring instruments and are usually up to 15 mm in range, while the larger ones are used for supplying current to car batteries and chargers for car and traction batteries.
Alligator clips are convenient for quick and secure connection to the measured circuit/cable. "Crocodiles" are an indispensable assistant in car diagnostics, saving valuable time. The flat part of the jaws, as well as the strong spring, allow for secure clamping of even the thinnest cables and protect against sparks or the possibility of ignition of the electrical connection.
Crocodile clips are mainly divided by color:
The red color is usually used for the positively charged part, which is marked with "+", and the black ones for the grounding or "mass" - are marked with "-".
The clips in Depending on the application, they are classified according to the clamping range as follows:
The clamps have PVC or rubberized insulation, the smaller ones up to 15~18 mm, are suitable for measuring instruments, multimeters or for chargers for small traction batteries with low amperage. With a protective grip of over 20 mm they are used for power cables or chargers for car batteries. The larger ones can withstand a larger load with an amperage of over 200 A to 600 A, which is necessary when starting car engines.
