IoT is a term derived from the Internet of Things. It is used when talking about electronic elements or devices that can connect to various wireless or wired networks, offering the transfer of various information data from and to any device that is connected to the Internet. The main purpose of this type of device is to collect or share information about its status and operation. The device-to-device (machine-to-machine - M2M) data that is generated by the IoT has a variety of applications. If it has the necessary connectivity, any appliance or device such as: coffee machine, mobile phone, washing machine, air conditioner, portable devices, headphones, etc. can be part of IoT. Connectivity, on the other hand, is achieved in a different way, through the use of heterogeneous communication modules such as: Ethernet, USB, RF, RFI modules and readers and M2M modules.

IoT modules are electronic devices that give a great choice and opportunity to be integrated into small or large projects in tablets, phones, computers or different machines that use a network connection. Internet network modules can be part of a larger electrical system based on automation in combination with various electronic timers, relays and or other devices, as well as be part of a "smart home" system. They help transfer, share and distribute different information system data or can be part of controllers to control a number of electronic devices. By connecting these talking devices, it is possible to collect and analyze information and produce a specific action through means of automation, thus carrying out a process to help complete a task or simply to signal even with remote access.
