Philips® is a Netherlands company with over 130 years of experience in electronics. Today, it is a global leader in the manufacture and distribution of both household electrical appliances and professional electronic equipment for hospitals and other institutions, products related to sound recording, and lighting.

130 years of evolution in lighting

A few years after the light bulb was invented in 1891 in Eindhoven, Gerard Philips and his father Frederik Philips established a light bulb factory. A In 1918, they also specialized in the production of electronic lamps, which gave them an advantage in the development of radio and television technology. In a short time, the company grew to over 4,000 employees. Thus, in 1927, Philips® (Philips) purchased the British company Mullard and the very next entered the market with the first Philips televisions. Shortly after, the first electric shaver and radio equipment appeared. In less than 10 years, in 1938, they started their own radio station, and the company reached over 45,000 personnel.

On May 9, 1940, the directors of Philips received information about the invasion of the troops on the territory of the Netherlands, which forced them to move the company to the territory of the USA, where they remained until 1950. After the end of WWII, they returned to the Netherlands again with headquarters in Eindhoven, initially manufacturing and selling televisions, later the company was renamed Philips Records. Production of audio tape recorders with magnetic tape, recorders, gramophones, gramophone records began. They also create the first portable radio cassette player.

In 1972 they created the first home video recording system despite heavy competition from Sony and their VHS system. After more than 5 years and numerous innovations such as double-sided videotape recording technology, they finally joined the Sony project in 1977.

Radio electronics, sound recording, specialized equipment...

In the 1980s and 1990s, it also entered the computer industry and developed and developed technologies for recording information on CD, DVD, Blu-ray. In 1997, they began a close collaboration with Sony and created the CD era.

To date, they have agreements with various American and Asian companies for home and household electrical appliances, medical equipment and many other electronic equipment for both home, industry and business.
