Power supplies are devices widely used as power source of electrical current and voltage in radio electronics, communication and measurement equipment, medical equipment, automatic control of manufacturing processes and in various other applications in the electronics field. They rectify and stabilise the voltage that supplies the load and also rectify and correct the current impulse. A big advantage of the power supplies is their compact size and high efficiency (87%).

In order to choose a device with suitable power, it’s necessary that you consult a specialist. The power should be based on the consumers’ power and the load type.

the rated power has to be 20-30% higher than the consumer’s power if the load is active (heating elements, electric ovens, stoves, filament lamps, etc.) because of the loads’ high starting current. When the consumer is switched on and the power supply unit is used in short-term conditions, the load exceeds considerably its rated values;
when the power supply is used with consumers with inductive load, the power should be 3 to 5 times bigger than load power consumption (fluorescent lighting, electric motors, pumps, air conditioners, etc.);
when the device is used with consumers with capacitive load, the power has to be 5 to 10 times bigger than consumer’s load (impulse power supplies, LED drivers, etc.).

In case you don’t follow these advices, the device can be overloaded and damaged. Please, have in mind that the warranty doesn’t cover this damage.
